1927- You are here.
Our journey starts in the year 1927, but first we need to rewind ten years. In 1917, ill-treated and underpaid Russian workers wanted a revolution in Russia. The Communist Revolutionaries joined with the workers to rebel and fight for a change in government. What was the result, you ask? Communism. Now we travel back to 1927 in China. Until this year, the Chinese Communist Party was part of the Kuomintang Rule. But now, the Communist Chinese leaders were ready to follow in the footsteps of their soon-to-be ally, Russia. A firm Communist man named Mao Tse-tung took control of leading angered Communist peasant armies to defeat the Kuomintang. Mao and his armies seized Canton, a Chinese city, and almost annihilated it. Taking the next action, Mao and the peasants slowly defeated every expedition sent to the Fukien providences by the Kuomintang.
A few years later, the Japanese military invaded into China! The Japanese military officials took over the government in Manchuria (a providence of China) and set up a pro-Japanese government in the coastal areas. The Communists made the decision to team up with the Kuomintang in order to defeat Japanese rule. But the Communists had a grand scheme. Mao Tse-tung and his followers let the Kuomintang do most of the fighting in battle with the Japanese. This action seemed strange considering fighting brought great dignity to a man. This left the Kuomintang under the impression that the Communists had finally learned some respect. The true plan of Mao Tse-tung was to let the Kuomintang wear themselves down so they would be easy to overthrow.
In 1945, Japanese forces in Manchuria collapsed. Civil war broke out between the Kuomintang and Communists almost immediately after the fall of the Japanese. Four years of battle were fought between the Kuomintang and the Communists. But after all hope of winning was dashed, the Kuomintang gave up. The Kuomintang who had survived the fighting fled to the country of Formosa, which today is called Taiwan. Mao and his communists got right to work on the government of the new People's Republic of China. (PRC)
